Coconut oil for hair

Because of its wide range of applications, coconut oil can hardly be compared with other foods. Whether as a cosmetic product or a valuable home remedy – the oil is more versatile than almost any other vegetable oil.

Therefore, the oil has a cooling effect and is particularly suitable as a refreshing care product in hot areas.

Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is literally on everyone’s lips because it is not suitable for consumption and hair care. Thanks to the rich ingredients, the easily dosed oil is often used for do-it-yourself cosmetics.

While coconut oil is not the first choice for the skin due to its comedogenicity, it offers an ideal basis for self-made hair care in the form of hair treatments or immediate help with split ends.

Coconut oil contains valuable vitamins and fatty acids that our body needs for extensive care. Oils and fats, in particular, are valuable sources of energy. The skin and joints, in particular, need supple moisture. With its valuable ingredients, the so-called “white gold” nourishes and strengthens the scalp and hair.

However, if you don’t like the smell of coconut, you should browse our hair oil article and get further inspiration.

Which hair problems does coconut oil help with?

The valuable ingredients of coconut oil ensure that the body is adequately nourished and hydrated. Our hair is confronted with many problems in everyday life: Frequent coloring and regular use of the straightening iron make the hair dry and brittle. The tips suffer first and react with split hair ends (colloquially split ends).

Coconut oil gives damaged hair a new shine, combats dandruff, and gives the hair an even and supple shine. Not only the hair but also the hair roots and the scalp benefit from the nourishing properties of coconut oil.

For dry hair

Coconut oil gives dry hair a supple shine. For this, the oil should be used regularly as a hair treatment. It can be combined together with the other essential oils and is easy to apply to the lengths and ends.

For split ends

With dry hair ends and split ends, a small amount of coconut oil ensures that the hair looks even and healthy. Just massage a tiny amount of oil over the areas affected. Washing out is not necessary.

This application can be carried out 2-3 times a week – it is quick and comparatively uncomplicated.

Incidentally, the oil smooths hair and makes it easier to comb. With regular use, styling sprays with silicone oils can be dispensed with.

For dull hair

If the hair is doing well, it has a silky shine. So if the hair is healthy from root to tip and has received enough nutrients, it will look healthy too.

This is where coconut oil can help, as it supplies the scalp and hair with moisture.

For dry scalp and dandruff

Coconut oil supplies the scalp with moisture and thus helps against dandruff. Ideally, the coconut oil should be gently massaged into the scalp 30 minutes before each hair wash. A small amount, about a teaspoon, is absolutely sufficient here.

If the scalp is severely irritated, the heated coconut oil can also be enriched with a drop of essential rosemary oil. 1 drop per 100 ml coconut oil has proven itself. This mixture can easily be stored in a clean screw-top jar for several months.

The effect of coconut oil on hair

Due to the valuable ingredients, coconut oil is one of the most popular care products. In particular, caprylic acid and, in particular, lauric acid, with its antimicrobial properties, are good for the hair roots and the scalp.

In addition to these fatty acids, there are other important health ingredients in the white oil: Vitamin E, minerals, and amino acids nourish the skin and hair.

Perfect hair care with coconut oil

Coconut oil is perfect in the form of shampoo, hair treatments, conditioners, or hair masks for hair care. It is important to ensure that the quality of the product is particularly good. Anyone who applies pure coconut oil to the scalp and hair should use cold-pressed organic products.

Apply pure coconut oil and do not wash out

The ends and lengths of the hair can be treated with coconut oil when it is dry. So-called leave-in cures can be used one to four times a month for best results.

Coconut oil also helps against dehydration in too much sun and heat – a small amount of oil has a protective and nourishing effect.

Coconut oil conditioner

Since coconut oil contains lauric acid as a component, it is a good basis for a nourishing conditioner. Enriched with rosemary oil results in good-smelling care that should be used occasionally to care for the hair roots and hair.

While conventional conditioners are used after washing your hair, DIY conditioners are used before washing.

You need these ingredients:

100 ml coconut oil

1 drop of rosemary oil

This is how you do the coconut oil, and rosemary rinse yourself

Heat the coconut oil in a bath of water.

Add a drop of rosemary essential oil.

Mix the ingredients together well.

Put the mixture in a jar and label it well, so the oil is not used for oil pulling.

Then massage sparingly into the hair and skin.

Then wash your hair as usual.

Coconut oil hair treatment

Hair treatments with coconut oil help to maximize the supply of moisture, and nourishing vitamins ensure more shine and suppleness.

Hair treatments with coconut oil should be gently massaged onto the scalp and hair at least once a week for 30 minutes or overnight and then rinsed out.

Optionally, hair masks can also be used, which makes rinsing out unnecessary.

A coconut oil-based hair treatment works wonders for dull and shaggy hair. The heated oil is enriched with chamomile tea and a finely pureed banana. This hair treatment gives dull hair its grip and shines back.

Coconut oil hair treatment
You need these ingredients:

-2 tbsp coconut oil

-4 tbsp chamomile tea

-1/2 mashed banana

This is how you do the coconut oil and banana cure yourself

-Take the 1/2 banana and use a fork to mash it so hard that no bits can be seen.

-Next, you add both the slightly warmed coconut oil and the chamomile tea. The mixture is easier to apply with lukewarm tea.

-Mix all the ingredients well together so that you get a treatment that can be easily worked into your hair.

-Apply this mixture to your hair.

-Use a shower cap to protect the cure and your pillow because the exposure time is approx. 8 hours / “overnight”

-Rinsing takes a little longer because the banana is rather difficult to rinse out in contrast to other types of fruit (e.g., avocado).

Coconut oil shampoo

As a natural shampoo, coconut oil gives hair a silky shine. Hair shampoos with coconut oil are available as finished products. But you can also make it yourself.

For this purpose, one-third each of coconut oil, curd soap, and apple cider vinegar is mixed and boiled with three times the amount of water until a thick mass is formed.

Experience with coconut oil for hair

In numerous forums and blogs on the subject of coconut oil as a hair care product, users swear by the effectiveness of the popular oil.

But there are also dissenting voices, and not all people are, without exception, enthusiastic about the “miracle cure” coconut oil. It is said only to dry out dry hair even more, as it can no longer absorb water after the treatment with coconut oil.

There is, therefore, a lot of controversy surrounding coconut oil. Some have had very good experiences with the treatment of hair and achieved desirable results. The others say it dries out your hair.

Neither the effectiveness nor the alleged harmfulness of coconut oil has been adequately proven, as there are not yet sufficiently representative long-term studies regarding the mode of action of coconut oil. It is often mentioned in the negative reports that the number of saturated fat is bad for your health if consumed in excess. However, it does not matter whether the product contains more saturated or unsaturated fatty acids than it is used as a cosmetic product.

Good conditioning effect for the hair

Coconut oil is particularly popular with dry tips. If you have brittle and dry-out hair, the combinability of hair is enhanced.  With the help of coconut oil, dry hair can be styled more easily.

All users agree on this: A little of the light oil applied to the finished hairstyle gives it a healthy shine. The hair feels smoother and looks healthier. The addition of coconut oil gives the hair more elasticity and moisture.
